Shakera Thompson is a business and intellectual property lawyer and the founder of TKA Law Firm. Big Law trained on Wall Street transactions, she focuses on fractional general counsel for business and IP, applied to the financings, acquisitions, contracts, and brand decisions a company faces as it grows.
As fractional general counsel, she stays close to a company across matters, reading a deal early, pricing the risk, and papering terms cleanly, so the legal record holds up when a financing, an enterprise deal, or a sale puts it under review.

As a former Wall Street big law corporate associate, Shakera represented major companies in high-value transactions. That work is the foundation for how she protects companies that have a lot to lose and more to gain. Her prior experience includes representing:
- The Walt Disney Company in its $10.6 billion sale of 21 Regional Sports Networks and Fox College Sports to Sinclair Broadcast Group, Inc.;
- Pitney Bowes Inc. in the $700 million sale of its Software Solutions business to Syncsort;
- Dataxu, Inc. in its $150 million sale to Roku, Inc.;
- WeWork Companies Inc. in its purchase of Prolific Interactive LLC; and
- Technology and life sciences companies and venture capital firms in preferred stock financings and general corporate matters.
Her capital markets experience includes shelf offerings, Rule 144A debt offerings, auction block trades, and senior secured convertible notes. Her banking and credit work includes leveraged buyouts, acquisition financings, and repricings for financial institutions and corporations.
Education and recognition
Shakera graduated magna cum laude, finishing second in her class, from Howard University School of Law, where she served as Managing Editor of the Howard Law Journal and received CALI Excellence for the Future Awards for the highest grade in twelve of her courses. She also graduated magna cum laude from Virginia Commonwealth University, where she was on the Dean’s List, and earned the Harvard Business School Online CORe (Credential of Readiness) in 2020, passing with honors.
She has been recognized for multiple consecutive years as one of the Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch in America, as Top 40 under 40 by the National Black Lawyers, and as a New York Metro Rising Star by Super Lawyers. Shakera is admitted to practice law in New York.
